Two brothers dead in the war

They are the brothers of my great maternal grandmother

Jules Fabre was born in Gonfaron in 1879 and Louis was born in Toulon in 1897, they are 18 years apart.

Jules engaged in the navy was second engineer when he disappeared during the torpedoing of the steamer St Simon in April 1917 off Bizerte in Tunisia, by the UC37 commanded by an ace of German naval hunting Otto Laundburg.

He holds the Legion of Honor and the War Cross with palms and bronze stars issued posthumously.

Louis was a infantryman when he fell almost at the end of the war in September 1918 in Feuilly, Aisne.

He was named to the order of his division on 21.11.1917 and decorated with the Cross of War with palms and silver star.

"Had a very nice attitude during the hard fighting from 23 to 26.10.1917 for the conquest of the spur and village of Pargny-Filain"
