Who are the Provence enthusiasts?
Since 2015, the Passadoc association has been spreading the word about Provence. French and sometimes Provençal are used to publish the Gazette hebdo. But where are Provence enthusiasts outside our borders? The Abbe Photo association proposes to explore...
From Passadoc to Abbe Photo: 9 years in the past
In 2014, Passadoc was launched to bring out Provence's photo archives.
In 2021, another association is created: Abbe Photo brings André Abbe's archives to life through books, exhibitions and social networks. The new association has lots of projects and needs funding. How do we go about it?
The urgent need to save our heritage photo by André Abbe
André's archive consists of 100,000 photos taken between 1970 and 2000. Many of these photos take on a whole new meaning in André's story. Sometimes there's even a historical context. André turns 80 in 2024. There is an urgent need to digitize and document them. Passadoc and Abbe Photo are much more fun ways of carrying out this long-term project.
Objective 2030: finding a patron for Abbe Photo
Heritage Days 2021 and 2022, two exhibitions at the Maison Abbe in Roquebrune sur Argens (Var). Who finances? Book sales finance part of the project. But the bulk is financed by André and François Abbe, and Patricia Gourier.
What's next? Objective 2030: find a corporate sponsor. And until then? Spread the word about Abbe Photo.
Where to find your future patron?
In France, André Abbe is one of the authors of Passadoc. Passadoc is available in French and sometimes in Provençal on Facebook. Since 2021, the Gazette Passadoc has been offering selected pieces every Saturday on the Abbe Photo website. So, Passadoc is already offering great visibility to French speakers.
Abroad, it's different.
Are English speakers more passionate about Provence than Provençals?
For the past 8 years, Passadoc has published in French and occasionally in Provençal.
What about foreign tourists? English would seem to be the obvious way to promote André Abbe's photographs abroad.
Bringing together three languages: Provençal, French and English.
The bet is on. Passadoc continues to publish the various authors on its Facebook page and in the Gazette.
Abbe Photo launches English-language publications on the Abbe Photo Facebook page. It features texts and photos by André Abbe, as well as nods to other authors.
