Ten years already!

In 1980, in front of dozens of boxes, hundreds of photos, the reporter André Abbe gratified his head:
What am I gonna do with all this?

Years have followed the years... and photos to photos; result: 100,000 slides, among others, to save! His son François had the idea to digitize them, share their stories and travel memories...

This is how Passado was born.*... the past of the country of Oc... Today, Passadoc is ten years old and has hundreds of interlocutors who comment on the photos, the reports, which bring a precision, recognize a face – for example that of a young child who today is a father of two or three « poulpiquets », as Brassens sings, the Setois. Every day, it's a story, it's a smile!

Exhibitions have come, including « Women of Provence« publications such as « Roquebrune in images » and Surprisingly the porello !

Happy birthday Passadoc and good wind!

The aioli monster!

In several small Provencal towns, in the summer or early autumn, a "monster aioli" is organized. Everyone is welcome, and sometimes there are up to 400 participants.
A photo captures a moment, an atmosphere, and sometimes tells a whole story... We can see the details: those who are already sitting and waiting passively, those who are busy, those who are chatting...

When the worms had the odds

We are in the spring: behind André Abbe, a beautiful mulberry tree... And a honeysuckle in flowers...

Torero and toro

« In the Roman arenas of Fréjus« .
Man and beast face to face... Agated by the bullfighter, the lure attracts the bull running... The muletta flies over her head... The pass is over... The audience applauds. For a while, life continues in the arena.

There is no question of opening the discussion here. « for or against bullfighting » ; there are other sites for this; We simply look at these photographs taken by André Abbe during the 1970s-80s and 2005.

Not all bullfighting is fatal. The Camargue Race focuses on skill rather than bloodshed, precise François Abbe.

Martine Meunier
Yes, it's good to be distracted. A Camargue « aficionado » Camargua races explained the differences between the Corrida and what is practiced in the Camargue. The Spanish toro is selected for its ability to fight in the arena, it is much more imposing than the Camargue bull, which it also serves for meat (gardeiane for example). The horns are different. Je let you read this Article which explains well the differences and state of mind of amateurs.

I hear we're having fun and singing at the end of the hall.
Someone touched the lock and I plunged into the big day.
I saw the bands, the barriers and the people around.

The Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer

In May, the pilgrimage brought together some 20,000 participants.
It is a religious feast: during the Mass, the Christians of the small village (2,000 inhabitants), the « Travellers » and certainly some tourists!
André Abbe writes: « These pictures were taken 45 years ago. I have not returned to the pilgrimage of Saints Marie Salome, Marie Jacobé and Sara since that day.
The Saintes-Maries... It is also the story of the little Mireille who was in the Camargue, hoping that her prayers would weaken the will of her father who refused that she married Vincent, too poor vannier.

Run, run, i Santo! Soulas.

But the country's too hot sun takes its life: victim of insolation, she dies, facing the sea, leaving her parents and Vincent to despair.

– At the communal school, I filled the stove with coal when my turn came. Later, I did it in my barracks in Verdun.
Then the mines of Languedoc and Provence closed and we finally forgot about coal.

Regularly, we talk about reopening our mines...

There is the best coal, anthracite and the worst, lignite. Which one will we burn in our power plants? The one our neighbors want to sell us.
We won't play fine with fine particles.

When I crossed Mauritania to Mali, I crossed the famous ore train from Nouadhibou. Three kilometers long, four locos, two hundred cars, 16,000 tons...
If we have to go back to coal, it's this one we'll burn because it'll cost less to import than if we have to reinvent it. « black mouths » of the - Assumption.

In Comps, it was a wood stove that we turned on, when we were on duty, before the arrival of our comrades and the mistress.
We also wiped the picture. The mistress was taking us to the hill for a broom.
All this seems very far away, but it was only in the years 55-60.
