Along the roads...

[Jeep]... know all the paths, those that go up among the oaks to reach, at the top, the road which marries the route of a Roman way, and those that sway under the hazelnuts*...

Paths began to exist when man sedentated. Without going back to the age of caves, let's go through some Roman ways whose remains are known in almost all regions of France.

Of the approximately 100,000 km built, let us consider only the oldest: via Domitia which connects the Alps to the Pyrenees, inaugurated – lit-on – in 118 BC by Domitius, consul at Narbonne.

Let's skip the centuries to meet Trudaine, who develops the network of the royal lanes, provides them with indicator poles and kilometric terminals; to these, will succeed the imperial ways, Napoleon I and Napoleon III oblige! The roads will be classified departmental, then national ones that all would – it is said! – their point zero on the parvis of Notre-Dame (Paris).

Of all the roads of France in Europe The one that I prefer is the one that drives Car or auto stop To the shores of the Midi...

          ♪♪♫♪♫

It is André Michelin who sows the terminals along our roads; they are yellow for the department and red for the national; all have a number, names of localities; which does good service to travelers and ends – or almost! – to such dialogues:

– Tell me... Here, how do we win Roquebrune?
– At the exit of the village, follow the stone path; with the big oak, turn right. From afar, you will see a white bastide... You've almost arrived...

– Where is our road?

Patience! She's in the middle of Bormes-les-Mimosas.

To visit the beautiful villages of the Var coast, choose winter.

I was the only visitor to Bormes (the Mimosas are a recent addition) this morning in December and I took great pleasure...

My last visit went back to the 1990s, on the occasion of a filming for France 3. The old village and church have been restored tastefully but the whole house has reminded of a theatre setting.

I saw the street again. « Rompi cuou » and appreciated the presence of the sign in Provencal. The less the language is present in the houses, the more it is found on the walls of our streets, proof that the people of the country are sensitive to this loss.
The names in Provençal keep their memory.

Many villages have a street « broken » (Bucks ass), these are very steep streets where you quickly found your ass on the floor...

E not pierced « carriera broken » that, se siam nos other than cabussam, es ben ela que nos lo fai breake lo cuou...
(And why not? « street breaks (romp to the third person of the singular) ass » For if it is we who fall, it is she (the sloping street) who makes us break it...

To the most illustrious of Toulonnaises!

By the greatest of chance, I learned that at the beginning of his career, Mireille Darc had played « Mirèio » Frédéric Mistral, in Provencal of course, in Saint-Rémy, under the direction of Jean Deschamps.

In the 1970s, she became the star of great French cinema comedies. I don't miss an opportunity to see her again in « The Barbuzes« .

She was born in Toulon on May 15, 1938, just 85 years ago, and spent her childhood in Valbourdin.

The Toulon of his youth no longer exists. The old town has been renovated and the matafs in a uniformed and red pompom have disappeared.

When someone screws up their work they say: « A fa coumo lei daughter of Touloun, a fa la mita a oblida lei cantoun » (He did like the daughters of Toulon, he did half and forgot the contours).

Why girls « Touloun? », it's not because they're more demeriting than others but simply because it rhymes with « cantoun« .

Mireille Darc, born Aigraz, made the conservatory of Toulon at the same time as another – almost – Toulonnais, Henri Tisot, born at the Seyne-sur-Mer, an inescapable imitator of « General »...

My mother said: She's like Toulon's girls! She sweeps the middle and not the corners!

By sorting out papers, I found an envelope (and its contents) posted on Rue La Boétie in a beautiful district of Paris in March 1969 by a friend.

« André Abbe – 83 Roquebrune on Argens » And the letter came!

Today, a small half of the letters sent to me are lost because I live in an isolated house and the factors do not bother to look for my box. Yet I took the precaution to ask people to write the full address.

In 1969, almost everyone knew me in Roquebrune. Today, of the 14,000 Roquebrunois, less than 300 must know me, among the old families that are disappearing and among the lovers of Provençal. Two dozen « old » Roquebrunois remember seeing me on television.

Falling in anonymity is not painful.

                               This envelope caused many exchanges!

That's it when you're famous!
I'm sure if your friend hadn't put your photo on, the letter would have come to you too.

I remember, when Jacques Martin lit up our Sunday afternoons, he had received a letter with his picture on the envelope and only registered « Paris ».

Maryse Laugier
I knew your name... I didn't know I'd ever see you in person!

Gisèle Peinat-Lorch
I have to be one of those last 300. « Roquebruno mohicans »Even though I don't live anymore Roquebrune, who remember and who still know André ABBE!

We never rations TV shows or conferences...

Soon the factors, hence the illustrious unknowns in the landscape, far away from familiar figures of Dantan, risk to pass only once or twice a week, given the massive drop in the volumes of mail – daily mail distribution tours would be in mode « Review » in the upper spheres of the Post Office, after the removal of the red stamp and the installation of a dematerialized version of the so-called urgent letter...
No one writes or bigger world .. and we are « dematerialising » slowly but surely...

The Gazette de Passadoc – N° 117

Jean-Pierre Murat demande :
