Party in the village!

« Ah! That life is daily* ! »

Also, to drive away the gloomy days of cities and villages, from time to time we celebrate!

And all the pretexts are good: because it's a new year, because spring is coming, because hay is cut, because the harvest is over, because this is Christmas time... And when we're at the end of the year, we start again!

In villages, it is always an event that is carefully prepared.

We make sure that the old Pascal will still lend his field where will align the long tabbed for a meal taken in common; On the menu, it'll be pot-au-feu and the pots will glute all afternoon...
We have to organize the ball, the drink, set up the stage of musicians on the big square, hang the lanterns to the branches of the plane trees... When evening comes, we have a drink with the mayor... We take the opportunity to ask about the four-year project: « So, when are you building this covered market?«

– Picture of Epinal! Some will say.

Only nenni! It is for many of us a memory of last summer!

In cities, of course, everything has a different dimension; Lemon Party in Menton, Nice Carnival, Lavender Festival and tank parade – of which we talked here there are a few issues – attract many tourists. It is the cohue in the streets and among traders of regional souvenirs and products.

– What about our party in all this?

Patience... she's coming!

Fréjus party!

This year, Bravad will take place from 28 April to 1 May. Less known, less spectacular than the bravad of Saint-Tropez, it has the advantage of having as its setting the cathedral of Fréjus which has no equivalent to Saint-Tropez.

The uniforms in Fréjus have nothing to envy those of the Tropezians.

I chose this old photo of the Zouaves seen from the back to better show their panties and gaiters. If these zouaves are in fact Turkish, you will be indulgent. They wear panties identical to the color near.

Saint Francis of Paul, who came from Calabria, had saved from the plague the Fréjussians who each year show their gratitude.

Castle of Turenne - Photo André Abbe
Marie, Tibures, Beatrice and Hildegarde...

Today's feminism wants to make people misinformed believe that women have always been subjected to men.

From the 12th century, women were able to demonstrate independence, initiative and talent.

When I drive north or west, I sometimes stop at the castle of Turenne (Corrèze) where was born. Mary (Maria) de Turenne became by her marriage Maria de Ventadorn, whose beauty had turned many heads. She was trobairitz, a troubadour woman whose talent was recognized.

Unfortunately, we have kept only the tenson (dialogued poem) with Guid Ussel. The poets Clara d'Anduze (Gard) and Tombs of Seranon (Alpes Maritimes) we kept only a few verses. Fortunately, Beatriz of Die and Azalais de Porcairagues we have several canços (poems).

Despite my admiration for Occitan poets, I must admit that the great figure of the 12th European century is Hildegarde von Bingen (Germany). Benedictine mystic, now holy, she wrote religious texts of high literary value that were recently recorded.

Run to the store to buy records from the Comtesse (Beatriz) of Die and from Hildegarde von Bingen.

« Today's feminism wants to let misinformed people believe that women have always been subjected to men.« , writes André Abbe.

Still no... But often yes! And for a long time!

While in the Middle Ages [largely, from 500 to 1500] some beautiful ladies [most often they belong to the nobility, such as Clara d'Anduze (1200)] are heard, the prohibitions are numerous for all others.

To sum up: they must obey the father and the husband... Napoleon and his code did not fix things, on the contrary!

Some gains... a few dates closer to us:

1907 : Married women have their wages. Before, it's all her husband's business.
1924 : Women were allowed to graduate and in 1938 to study at university.

Let's move on:

1944 : Voting rights.
1965 : Authorization to open a bank account and work without the consent of the husband.
1970 : The mention « Head of family » is deleted and replaced by « parental authorization »
1972 : The École Polytechnique opens its doors to girls; eight enter and one will be promotion major: Anne Chopinet.

Come on! One last!

Since 2013 – and 2013 only! – women are no longer outlawed if they wear pants; a prohibition that dates from an order of 16 Brumaire an IX.
Pristi! It's only been ten years since I've been in danger of breaking the law.

Let the day when « feminism » will be a word abandoned in the dictionaries and not accompanied by demands, or even excessive parades (as when in 1968, girls protested with their bras at the end of a spade!).

Only before we get there, the Margots* white quails, the Fanchons* sews, brook nymphs*, the Venus barrier*, still have many equalitys to ask for.

The lakes of Provence...

Lake St. Croix - Photo A Abbe

The artificial lakes of Provence are at the lowest, it is discussed daily on television.

This was never seen on the shores of the lakes of St. Croix and Serre-Ponçon, Europe's largest freshwater reserve.

My concern for accuracy obliges me to point out that only the south bank of the dam is Provençal. The north bank is already Dauphinois, I say that for people in the Gap area who refuse to be provençal. The name of Serre-Ponçon comes from Löccitan « Ponchary greenhouse », the mountain in the shape of a point.
I'm getting away from the subject!

Just 30 years ago, we had organized a week of broadcasts from France 3 around Lake Sainte-Croix (Var and Alpes-de-Haute-Provence) and the water level was particularly low. He was later raised high.

How far will the water level rise? What if he doesn't come up?

You have to be optimistic, he'll come back!

Lake Saint-Cassien rises... And then go down a little bit.
It should not be forgotten that these are hydroelectric lakes and that at times there are water releases; Others need more water.

I have always seen what seems paradoxical: Saint Cassian very low in February when it is very cold.

– The same as in La Sanha de Mar is a canton that li diem « canto cigalo » What is the aim of this report?

– Even if in La Sanha de Mar there is a canton called « cicalo song » Who has to do with the insect, they never see the accumulation of two names of author KaN-T (for canto) and SiG (for cicalo), that Serre-Ponçon would not come from Serre e Ponchon (point, summit)?

Picking mushrooms

Marcel Pagnol's father was proud to show his two bells to the villagers and happy to be photographed by the parish priest.

More modestly, I show you the greatest delicious lactate or "sanguin" (in Provençal, the pinenc) that it was given to me to find during my long career as a mushroom researcher!

To give a ladder, I placed next to an oak leaf and my Nontron knife.
Photo A. Abbe

There are many lactaries and most are not delicious at all.

There are two variants of delicious. The picture of a beautiful orange colour and another, more rare, wine-like color. In Roquebrune, it is the "vinachu", I don't know if there is a French name.

As a teenager, I went to mushrooms on Thursdays, and in the evening I brought them – to make me four sous – to a broker who sold them on the Nice market. The ladies who were sorting separated the blood from the vinachous, each with his cage.

Nontron is less known than Opinel and Laguiole. It is the oldest closed knife in France, brass virole and pyrograved box handle. It is produced by three cutleries in the small town of Nontron in the heart of the green Perigord, in the north of the Dordogne department.

Mine is a Chaperon, the name is on the blade, which I had bought on the spot led by a friend professor d
In the cutlery's workshop, the Limousin dialect, north occitan, was still spoken 35 years ago. I didn't go back and I don't know if the practice of the language was maintained at a good level in Nontron.

The collection of mushrooms must be done with a knife, one must think about the next harvests and leave the mycelium in the ground, grubbing up is a scraping.

Andre Abbe.

In my low-alpine corner, only the blood and especially the saffrons were known as pinhets. I've never heard of wine... If anyone has a visual, I'll be delighted!

Personally, I will return Saturday and/or Sunday to the morilla: this season is not bad.
Otherwise, I would eat a tartavelle, but I don't remember the taste, besides I haven't seen any for a long time!

Mathieu BAim

Unless mistaken, the color lactate « wine » is not a delicious lactate but a blood lactate.

According to my book of mycology (and on Wikipedia!), it is considered best edible than the delicious, which is already very good.

What a pleasure to go and get mushrooms hidden under the leaves or pine garns – pine needles... Like we might not tell Roquebrune!

I put them in a nice basket and not in plastic.

In the fall, I found roses from the meadows.

A reader questioned :

In issue 116 of « The Gazette » – subtitle « Getaway » – I noticed an apparent contradiction between two participants:

"Calèche," said the André Abbe
– Cut, corrected Michel Teychenné.

Which one is right?

Research Passadoc (various sites):

Scale : hippomobile vehicle of a very precise type: foldable hood, with four wheels, and four seats opposite.
So Michel would be right.

But we also read: at the beginning of the 21st century, « carriage » means « any car driven by one or more horses ». So André wouldn't be wrong!

This avoids a very unlikely zizany between Michel and André!
