Frédéric Mistral
Mistral... like the name of the wind « the most fol and the most magisterial of the band to Eole » *... One of the most famous characters of all Occitania ... And the dear poet of Passadoc!
He was born in Maillane – a small village in Bouches-du-Rhône, of which he will be a municipal councillor and which now has some 2,700 inhabitants – in a family of peasants that are said to be wealthy; A village he won't leave... He lived there, worked there, received his friends, died there in 1814; He's 84.
* G. Brassens.
May eu restavo dins Maiano,
E lis ancian dóu terradou
Ian vist treva nòstis andano...
But he stayed in Maillane,
and local elders
They saw our paths...
Moun Toumbéu – Poem of Mistral – 1907
His family would like him to be a lawyer; He received a bachelor's degree, was educated at the University of Aix and in 1851, obtained a Bachelor of Laws degree. He was already 46 years old when he married Marie Rivière, Dijonnaise, barely 20 years old, who would still remain in the shadow of her husband. They won't have children.
Aquelo nesco s
Din un cumbo arebro et sourno
Wind pee a mill that roco subran
I'm not saying that.
Talking to you about redhead wax
Neither cat nor cabro nor satire
In accordance with Article 3 of Regulation (EEC) No 1408/71,
Frédéric Mistral
(We find these verses in Calendal)
This Nesque sinks
In a dark grave
And then comes a moment when the rock suddenly
Expands above in an amazing way;
I'm talking about the Rock of the Cire,
No cat, no goat, no satire
I'm sure I'm responding.
Ne l’escaladeront.

I'm from Auriol!
The sky of Provence

I'm from Auriol!
If a Provençal tells you: Where (I'm from Auriol!) As he lifts his shoulders, he doesn't care what you talk about with him.
But how and why is Auriol, this commune of Bouches du Rhône bordering the Var, involved in this expression that I completely ignored?
It was Mestre Andrieù Abbe who explained to me at the corner of the fire that was crackling in the chimney of his bastide.
Here's the story that Alphonse Daudet would not have disavowed to entrust her to her parish priest in Cucugnan!
Just a few kilometers south of Auriol, taking the road to Aubagne you will pass through the village of Roquevaire.
On a spring Sunday, the abbot of Roquevaire taking advantage of the fact that his church is full of sinners embarks on a dithyrambic preaching.
He promises to the unbelievers to roast in the eternal flames of Hell if he took the saugrenue idea to get away from the Lord's protection by not frequenting the Holy Church assiduously.
On that very day, the parish priest so much and so well harangue his flocks that all are broken down by fear except one, at the bottom of the church, a beat smile cracking his face from one ear to the other.
- I'm here!
Substantial: « I came to Mass because I was passing by but since I am from Auriol I am not concerned.«

This is the story that Alphonse Daudet would not have disavowed to entrust to his parish priest in Cucugnan, writes Claude Boyer.
Auriol – Cucugnan... So similar stories that it can only be one story, I thought. And I found this:
Daudet was very much inspired by a text by Roumanille (friend of Frédéric Mistral), which Roumanille translated a text by Auguste Blanchot de Brenas (1828-1877).
The latter, a young traveller in 1858, heard the sermon of the parish priest of a small village of Corbières... He tells it in a weekly in which he participates « Literary, artistic and scientific France » (No. 30 – July 1859). His reading inspired Achille Mir (felibre – 1822-1901) who made it an Occitan version.
The sky of Provence
Modest tribute of Passadoc to Marcel Amont, who died on March 8.
I learned his death by reading « On the edge of languages » published every week by Michel Feltin-Palas in the weekly L-Express. I didn't get the news on TV, Marcel fell into oblivion.
Proud to be a Bearnian, he had recorded songs in Gascon but all his songs were sung in French. Star of the song in the late 1950s and early 1960s, he had conquered the radios with « Blue, blue the sky of Provence. » that was looping.
It is rare to find a sky in Provence uniformly blue but it happens... Goodbye Marcel in the blue of the sky.

Three years earlier, we had met in his workshop, for the purposes of the issue of FR3 in Provencal « Vaqui ».
I pay a modest tribute to these two men of talent and heart, presenting this image of the filming day. I can't find the other pictures that day.
I would like to see this twelve-minute docu-mentary rebroadcast one day. He is currently on the shelves of the Marseille INA.

Thanks. Nadine Berenguier for these pictures taken on the alive!
The pictures of the tank with the aviators are from March 16, 1950. The photo with the young jazz girls is from March 14, 1948. The tank with skiers dates back to 1947 and the one with the Easter Bell. The older photos are not dated, unfortunately.
