The shepherds' umbrella

Obviously, the one who houses men, dogs and donkeys is a pondo!

Pando? Aco ? Almost a hundred years old, it's the brand* a vast umbrella that all shepherds possess... Almost. It protects them from rain, wind, lightning; When the warm summer months arrive, it becomes parasol.

Its peculiarities :
- 1.25 m in diameter,
– 9 rattan whales,
– 1 mast of beautiful beech size as well as the pommeau whose rounded shape allows a good hold in hand, a hand that can thus be slipped in a pocket when it is cold.
– a blue cotton canvas, double woven tight, extremely resistant, now resined. In the past, three or four heavy rains were required for cotton yarns to tighten strongly and become waterproof.
– the essential metal parts are made of brass.

Early XX^e In the Ossau valley, shepherds and their sheep in transhumance often stopped at Pau. They took advantage of it to buy, repair or change the canvas of their umbrella that they kept almost all their lives!

Every 8 March, Women's Rights Day reminds us that in France they only vote since 1945....
