The maquis "Vallier".
...one of the most important maquis var of the Second World War.
This departmental maquis of the AS (Secret Army) will constitute its existence from February 1944 to August 1944 with first a handful of men, to reach nearly a hundred guerrillas. Most of these were opposed to requisitions for compulsory work for the Germans. These young people were all volunteers to participate in future fighting against the occupant.
The first camp of the maquis Vallier is set up with the help of the SA of the canton of Fayence between Callian and Mons, at the place called "fridge" or Farigoule. This camp will move north-east of Mons, to the Lauquiers some time later, then a dozen times until the Disembarkation of Provence.
At the same time, a screening camp for recruits is set up in Aups (83) because it does not go up to the maquis who wants. At that time, volunteers had to go through the Café de France at the Muy. From there, after having been questioned for the first time, they are taken in charge to be transported to an isolated cabin in the commune of Figanières (83). In this place, they are again "verified" according to a very precise ritual whose unfolding usually takes place at night.
The candidate must first know the password ("The Cardinal? – It is red") which is the guarantee that he has followed the tests of the first filtering. Then he is locked in a shed for long questioning and warning. If the candidate satisfies this interrogation, he is then driven by the vehicles of the transport company "Gaby" of Louis Picoche (Departmental Head of the Maquis Service of the AUS) to the filtering camp of Aups or, depending on the time, to the maquis himself.
One of the first to integrate was Raoul Ugolini called "Bébert". Ernest Millet, an employee of Gaby et maquisard, was responsible for these connections.

The history of GUYANE
The GUYANE is a 96 m long refrigerated cargo ship that was launched in 1934. It provides freight transport between Martinique and the metropolis.
In 1943 he was requisitioned by the Italians and renamed Acqui. But the allies landed in Italy and the ship was scuttled so as not to fall into their hands. The Germans then take possession of it, bail it out, the rearrest to turn it into a mineweigher. He then took the name of Niedrsachsen. He will be posted to the Mediterranean to try to prevent an ally landing in Provence.
In February 1944, he left Toulon harbour with a shipment of mines and two escort ships. But the English submarine Upstart and pulls several torpedoes, one of which will touch the Niedersachsen by starboard front. It quickly sinks causing 12 victims.
Today, its wreck lies under more than 100 meters of water off Toulon, and this for 78 years...

The pleasant lemon trees have multiplied and developed better than anywhere else.
Today, Menton is famous for its delicately scented lemons, and every year Lemon Festival attracts many visitors. This year, this colourful event will take place from 12 to 27 February.

“It was in the early 1990s that the sculptor Bernar Venet, who lives and founded his foundation in the Muy, came to meet the municipality to propose the realization of three monumental crosses at the top of the Rock. The work was inaugurated on 11 July 1991.
