The Martine Bellini river is in front of the village of Bargème (Var). Amontanhage or amuntagnage means transhumance in Provençal. André Abbe tells us his last transhumance in 2019.
This is Bargeme, the highest village of the Var and among the most beautiful, in the background.
In front of me, the Bellini family herd led by Martine. Its frail silhouette hides a burger full of energy that knows the job.
It was in June 2019, the last time I made the transhumance on foot with Martine, Bernard, their son Nans and a friendly hostess. The day before we had crossed Bargemon, ah the beautiful pictures, slept on the map of Canjuers, then followed the abandoned village of Broves in the early morning.
I had found the herd at Puget on Argens and followed it to Bastide (High Var). Terminus, the bar-restaurant-grocery counter of the village to enjoy a coffee-croissant together. After burning, the herd had continued its way to Châteauvieux and I had returned to Roquebrune.
If the Bellini decide to walk in June 2024, I will accompany them again.
