Wild child...
It is in the Tarn that we hear about it for the first time in the region of Castres. During the winter of 1797, a rumor began to roam the whole village, spreading like a sledge of powder throughout the canton, one saw a child about ten years old, hirsute, walking on four legs, who lives in the midst of the animals and has a smear across the throat, he eats acorns, chestnuts, roots, and climbs to trees like a squirrel.

My first movie in the movies...
And what movie? Was it in Provence? Elsewhere?
Andre remembers: Roquebrune had two cinés: Vox, the most chic, and the most mediocre Star.

I was very young 3-4 years old so between the 10 commandments or as much as the wind, at that age it was Disney.
There were three cinemas in La Ciotat including the oldest French cinema in Eden, the Kursal and the Theatre. The Ciotat... the city where the Light brothers filmed their first film Train entrance at the station.

In Provence? Elsewhere?
It's somewhere else... And my memories take me to the Rex, Parisian cinema « the particularity of which is to possess a true Mediterranean decor and a ceiling representing a starry sky ».
When the lights in the room went out, Mom said:
- Look up there...
I raised my head... And I saw the deep blue of a starry night... Magic!
As for the first film... « Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs » (Disney). Is this really the first? Maybe... But not certain.

I am what is called a cinemaphile, I have seen dozens of films and my oldest memory dates back to June 1966, at the former Palais des Festivals de Cannes where I saw « The yellow dog ».
For yes, I mounted the steps (without the red carpet) for the award ceremony! That year, I received my first French prize from Mr. Bernard Cornut-Gentille, then Member of Parliament for the city. In hindsight, I wondered why we had passed this film, rather black, dating back to 1932 and adapted from a Simenon novel to kids supposed to participate in a recreational afternoon.

« Monte Cristo » – French-Italian film of 1954, directed by Robert Vernay, adapted from the eponymous novel (come so dice!) broadcast in 2 epochs: Treason and revenge – a week apart on a Thursday at the Vox, unless mistaken, at the bottom of the Place Agricola de Fréjus – to reward me for my excellent academic results during the Christmas or Easter holidays – I was supposed to be about ten years old.
A few films also when I was still in primary school at the movies in Roquebrune, but there I had a « white » the films broadcast. (Two rooms at the time, rue Notre-Dame and Av. Gabriel Péri). I think I had to see it. « Button War », directed by Yves Robert in 1962, unless I saw or saw him again during the film club sessions at the boarding school of the Lycée de Jeunes Filles de Draguignan – the current Lycée Jean Moulin. All this is getting younger!
I stayed very cinephile even though I don't frequent too much cinema...

Trip to the centre of Buèges
The source of the Buèges), [...] a « Tantalus' torture for the speleonaut », unable to penetrate the underground network of the river. Also, talking about a huge privilege of having been able to explore the Underground Buèges is a sweet euphemism!
It was an honour and a real chance to have participated in this beautiful (long-term) adventure, which allowed the opening of the source, its exploration, and its « closure » .All this thanks to the multiple permissions obtained from a long struggle by Frank Vasseur (dive monitor) who did not spare his self-denial to realize this old dream.
Also happy, of course, to have shared all these precious moments with a ultra-passionate team, from the first open blocks at the bottom of the basin, to the last anchor studs screwed on the grid that now closes the entrance of the underground network.

Montpellier besieged!
In 1622, exactly 400 years ago, Louis XIII the king of France was with his army at the door of the Protestant stronghold of Montpellier. The king hoped for a quick conquest, but it turned into a bloody siege for several months.
If the Montpellierans counted 500 dead among theirs, the king's troops lost more than 5000!
Pending the attack of the king of France, the Montpellierans had destroyed all the suburbs around the Commune Fence to replace them with an immense fortification built to resist modern artillery. The city was breathtaking by force.
A diplomatic opening of the king of France allowed the city residents to surrender with sufficient guarantees of impunity for an honourable end of siege.
Architect D-Argencourt entered the king's service after the siege to build such new fortifications. A century later Vauban will lead this architectural style to perfection. D-Argencourt was a precursor...

Pharmaceutical education in Montpellier.
[...] it was very difficult to distinguish him from medical education. It should not be forgotten that until the Revolution, by virtue of the agreements signed in 1572, the professors of the Faculty of Medicine were in charge of the theoretical teaching of pharmacy, whereas the apothecary teachers had to provide the theoretical training of the students who received the qualification of « companions ».
It was only in 1803 that a special pharmacy school was founded. His first teachers included pharmacists who had a pharmacy in the city. They were named Pouzin, Reboul, Figuier, Rey and Blanc and were headed by the professor of chemistry of the Faculty of Medicine, Joseph-Guillaume Virenque.
Later, other pharmacists gave him an immense reputation, such as Jacques Etienne Bérard, an eminent scientist whose work allowed him to become a corresponding member of the institute or Simon-Jude Duportal and especially Jules Emile Planchon, all of whom were known to have participated in the rescue of the French vineyard and the destruction of the phylloxera. He was so well known that he taught at universities of science, pharmacy and medicine. Professor Jaulmes also illustrated in the oenology....

The clearing of Rethondes
82 years ago, a demarcation line was established and cut France in half: in the north the area occupied by the German army, in the south a so-called zone « free ». Back to the circumstances of the implementation of this demarcation line...
The signature of the Franco-German armistice of 22 June 1940, in the wagon where the one of 11 November 1918 had been signed, not only manifested the military defeat of the French armies in the fighting of May-June 1940, but also the victory of the camp of French officers and leaders who had been working for several weeks to this end, and to an agreement with Germany.
After the resignation of the head of government Paul Reynaud on 16 June, the President of the Republic replaced him with Marshal Pétain who immediately made contact with the enemy in order to achieve an armistice.
Adolphe Hitler insists that it be signed in the same car of the Armistice of 14/18, from the clearing of Rethondes in the forest of Compiègne in order to show clearly the revenge of Germany.
The wagon came out of its hangar, while the monument of the Alsatians-Lorrains, dating from 1922, is hidden under a large Nazi flag. Only the statue of Marshal Foch is respected. On 21 June Hitler himself and the German delegation boarded the wagon and waited for the delegation of the French plenipotentiaries, who then discovered the conditions required by Germany. On 22 June, with the agreement of Marshal Pétain and the French government, the armistice, which in fact is not negotiable, was signed.
The clearing of Rethondes is then looted, the sacred slab that recalls the German defeat of 1918 hammered, and the car taken to Berlin where it is then exposed before being destroyed.
The Armistice was extremely hard and some of its conditions were even shameful, such as those that forced the political refugees who had come to France to seek asylum in 1933 to the winner. France is dismantled into two zones, the largest of which in the North is occupied by the German army and separated from the other by a so-called demarcation line. France is deprived of any army and must deliver its war material. Only the Navy escapes the Germans. Stangled, France is placed in fact under the dependence of the enemy and accepts a policy of collaboration, enshrined in Article 2 of the Armistice.
It entered into force on 25 June, as was the one signed with Italy on 24 June. In the collapse atmosphere of May-June 1940, the vast majority of French people trusted Marshal Pétain to ensure France's recovery.
Only a minority refused defeat, joined General de Gaulle in London or sought to « Do something », reactions which carry in them the first germs of the Resistance.

Sainte-Maxime, 1932 floods
« This episode, which ravaged the Var coast of Saint-Tropez in Saint-Raphaël at the end of September, was also of extreme violence on the Bouches-du-Rhône and the Alpes-Maritimes. The Fréjus station recorded 225 mm in 2 days on 28 and 29 September (including 139 mm on 28 and 86 mm on 25). The episode was accompanied by a violent hail that caused enormous damage to the vines in the middle of harvest. On this city hail had not been so violent since the storm of 22 August 1874 (Source: M. Foucou – Var Matin of 4 October 1992). The hails reached a size of 5 cm in diameter ».
