Walk in the Luberon
The Saignon Rock is easy access, do not hesitate to climb to its summit, a superb panorama is offered on the Luberon plain and mountains.
In clear weather you can see the Mont Ventoux, the Montagne de Lure, the Alpes de Haute Provence and even the heights of Avignon!
Thanks to this rock, Saignon played a key defensive role for the city of Apt attacked centuries by numerous invasions... not yet touristic! Saignon is not yet well known, take advantage of it to enjoy the beauty of its landscapes and discover the marked trails that will lead you to the vicinity of Saignon and on Mount Luberon.

Frédéric Mistral
Frédéric Mistral was born in 1830 and died in 1914 in Maillane, Bouches-du-Rhône, at the foot of the Alpilles. Son of farmers, he heard only the Provençal language during his childhood.
At twelve, he met Joseph Roumanille, a young overseer who wrote poetry in Provençal. It is a revelation and the beginning of a long friendship.
Brilliant pupil, he obtained his baccalaureate in Nîmes in 1847, but nevertheless decided to return to the family farmhouse to take care of the land. After a year, he realizes that this is not his way. He then went to Aix-en-Provence to study law. He discovers the history of Provence, theatre, troubadours... and his vocation.
In 1854, together with six other poets, Joseph Roumanille, Théodore Aubanel, Jean Brunet, Paul Giéra, Anselme Mathieu and Alphonse Tavan, he founded the literary movement Le Folibrig which advocates for the revival of the Provençal language.
Its motto is: Lou Souleu made me canta, either: The Sun makes me sing.
Mistral is the author of the Lou Tresor dóu Felibrige (1878-1886), which to date remains the richest dictionary of the d-oc language, and one of the most reliable for the accuracy of the senses. It is a bilingual French-Provençal dictionary, in two large volumes, encompassing all the dialects of the diocese.
His capital work is Mirèio (Mireille)published in 1859 after eight years of creative effort. Mirèio is a long poem in Provençal, verse and twelve songs, which recounts the upset loves of Vincent and Mireille, two young provençals of different social conditions.
Frédéric Mistral built his tomb in 1907, before his death in 1914: it is a very faithful replica of the Pavilion of Queen Jeanne des Baux-de-Provence. On the bell that rang the glass to announce his disappearance, a poem dated 1907, entitled Moun toumbeu. He was registered there a few days before his death. Moreover, when Mistral went to admire the sculptor's work in the church, he took cold and died.

Jean Giono
...known writer Provençal, perhaps the most famous.
Jean Giono was born in Manosque on 30 March 1895. [127 years ago].
The Provencal setting constitutes most of the decor of his writings. The writer and scriptwriter draws from ancient Greece his style focused on the condition of man in the world and its universal reach. This convinced pacifist opposes the armed conflict against Nazi Germany, thus inciting accusations of collaboration against him. A friend of artists like André Gide, he would prefer to remain on the margins of the literary currents of his time. He died on October 9, 1970.

78 years ago, on Trets' side...
A group of very active resistors of the maquis of « Saint John of Puy » , have long led, countless actions against the German occupant in this sector of Provence (Bouches-du Rhône). On the night of 29 March 1944, the maquis received his first parachute of weapons, ammunition and support materials on behalf of the maquis of Plan d'Aups. This parachute has just been confirmed by the broadcast of a coded radio message: The beautiful four-leaf clover will soon be taken.
The men appointed to carry out this recovery mission, namely Paul Boyer, Justin Richaud and the Deleuil brothers group together and then hide the contents of fifteen containers dropped by an English plane, even though less than 1.5 km away, Germans are stationed at the peak of the Regagnas. They, intrigued by the noise of the plane, launch several flares obliging the brave guerrillas to dive flatly and interrupt their mission.
Weapons and ammunition recovered will finally be delivered by road to the Marseille patriots of the Maquis du Plan d'Aups on 7 April 1944.

Duck plane!
Rightly named duck plane, the first seaplane was designed by a Marseillais and made its first flight on 28 March 1910
It is on the pond of Berre thatHenri Fabre, 28-year-old, for the first time tested his aircraft prototype. The aircraft – with a 15m wingspan and modestly equipped with a 50-horsepower engine – keeps all its promises by achieving this perilous flight!
A prowess for the time since this feat will take place only 7 years after the first historic flight of an aircraft led by the Wright brothers. The aircraft then made the first flight with take-off and landing in the water! A small journey, of barely 800m, but which will be a real victory for his inventor.

In Montpellier: when Pralon Street was sore...
Very quiet today, the small street Pralon, which overlooks the Jaumes Square, used to write Pralong, by name, like a lot of other ways in the neighborhood, of one of the former owners of land on site.
Three press clippings [...] testify that Pralon Street has been one of the top places of debauchery and violence for a very long time.

The cave of the potter district of Pila Saint-Gély.
During the excavations leading up to the Corum and Tram construction site one of the many caves that sank into the hill under the planade was rediscovered.
This area was home to many potter ovens and for centuries this cave had served as a « Industrial landfill » for generations of earthenware potters.
Archaeologists have thus been able to study the various productions of earthenware that have followed each other in these workshops since the 17th century.e century. There was even a gunball fired during the siege of the city in 1622!

The organ of Notre Dame de Paris
La construction de la cathédrale s’étend sur près de deux siècles : commencés en 1163 sous l’impulsion de l’évêque Maurice de Sully, les travaux s’achèvent en 1345.
Le catastrophique incendie du 15 avril 2019 détruit la flèche, la nef, le chœur et le transept. Heureusement, l’orgue n’est pas gravement endommagé, mais il nécessite un important travail de dépose et de restauration dont une partie va être confié à des artisans d’art de l’Hérault !

Quand le soleil joue à cache-cache…
Le 27 mars, le soleil passe juste derrière le sommet du Pic Saint-Loup (vu depuis la spirale). Mais ce n’est pas tout. Il ressort ensuite de l’autre côté et amorce une descente en caresse de la pente Nord du Pic. Caresse toute relative car 150 millions de kilomètres sépare le soleil de notre montagne préférée. Mais bon, le poète ne s’arrête pas à ces détails.
J’aimerai bien savoir si il y a une autre montagne sur Terre ou le soleil joue le même tour. Pour le détail, vous noterez que la croix du Pic disparait au passage du soleil et réapparait ensuite. Ceci est un artéfact dû à l’énorme différence du luminosité. Cet effet porte le nom d’un physicien, mais je n’arrive pas à retrouver son nom, si quelqu’un a l’info, merci !

Les rites de la mort en Provence
[…] Dès que le dernier soupir emportait l’âme d’un agonisant, on arrêtait le travail (les tâches indispensables comme les soins à donner au bétail étaient prises en charge par des voisins), puis on fermait les fenêtres, on voilait les miroirs avec des nappes blanches, on éteignait le feu dans la pièce et on arrêtait les pendules. Puis le mort était vêtu de ses plus beaux habits, souvent le costume de son mariage qu’il n’avait remis qu’à l’occasion de baptêmes. Puis, on allumait un cierge à son chevet.
