Description
Provence is so full of stereotypes and clichés. This photo is different. It captures scenes from life in the Provencal village of Roquebrune sur Argens in 1979. A major difference: this photo is taken from the inside, on the spot. The inhabitants of Roquebrune sur Argens might have refused to be photographed. André Abbe is different: André is one of them, born in the village, from an old farming family.
This collection is part of the book “Roquebrune en images” (only available in French). It’s the work of a photojournalist who has traveled the world without ever leaving his native village for long.
The photographer’s eye, the journalist’s pen, the stories of a native of Roquebrune-sur-Argens (Var).

Reviews of Abbe Photo products

A richness... Memory... A shared history, the love of this village and the souls of those who have passed on... An immense emotion for me...
Sabine A.

I didn't know Roquebrune. It made me want to discover the area and its rock. But more than just a place, I went back in time: the inter-generational mixes of the past, the Saint Jean bonfires and the village festivals with their parade floats... All good memories...
Clément C.

Every photo, every text takes me back to when I used to go with my parents and grandparents to work in the fields (especially the grape harvest). It's a tribute to "the real thing", to deep roots. Delicious Proust's madeleines that do you good.

Season after season, it's a charming and pleasant journey that you never tire of.

Under the Provence sun, a small village between the Mediterranean and the Argens river. For memories.
